More Tivoli systems and network management technologies from IBM will be included into the program in next releases, according to Ganek. The Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database and Tivoli Monitoring would be the logical next enhancements, he said.
Long-term, Ganek added, fresh iterations of the Cisco Assurance Management Solution may also include technologies IBM obtained via the acquisition of Vallent, a maker of network performance monitoring software. In February, IBM completed the acquisition of Vallent, and the software was added to their Tivoli business segment. After acquiring network management expert Micromuse in February 2006, IBM obtained access to the Netcool software. Additionally, he noted, it’s feasible that IBM and Cisco would release additional jointly created software.
Ganek emphasized that the partnership between IBM and Cisco isn’t exclusive and that IBM also has “excellent ties” and collaborates extensively with the majority of the other manufacturers of network equipment.
